TRUCE Integrated Development Organization (TIDO) has been actively implementing community-centered development programs aimed at addressing unemployment, poverty, and urban environmental challenges in Adama City and surrounding areas. Through a combination of vocational training, entrepreneurship support, urban sanitation initiatives, and women empowerment programs, the organization has created meaningful opportunities for disadvantaged youth and women to improve their livelihoods and contribute positively to their communities.
One of the major initiatives focused on organizing unemployed youth into shoe shining and shoe cleaning service groups. The participating youth received vocational and entrepreneurship training designed to strengthen their business skills, improve service delivery, and support sustainable income generation. This intervention not only created employment opportunities but also enhanced self-reliance, improved household income, and transformed many young people into emerging entrepreneurs and job creators.
In addition, TIDO implemented a City Green and Sanitary Program that engaged unemployed youth in environmental sanitation, waste management, urban greening, and public awareness activities. The initiative contributed significantly to improving urban cleanliness, promoting environmental sustainability, and creating healthier living conditions for the community. Through active participation in sanitation and environmental protection efforts, the youth gained practical work experience while playing an important role in building a cleaner and greener city.
The organization also carried out a Women Empowerment Program focused on urban agriculture and community-based livelihood activities. Economically disadvantaged women were provided with training, entrepreneurship support, and business development assistance to strengthen their economic independence. As a result, many women successfully expanded their income-generating activities, increased their earnings, and improved the overall living conditions of their families.
To strengthen long-term economic sustainability, TIDO delivered entrepreneurship and capacity-building training programs for both youth and women. The training covered vocational skills, business management, financial literacy, business planning, leadership development, and organizational skills. Participants were supported in establishing and managing small businesses, helping them build confidence and improve their future economic opportunities.
The implemented activities achieved measurable and meaningful results. A total of 35 beneficiaries gained employment opportunities, including 15 youth engaged in shoe shining and cleaning services and 20 youth involved in urban sanitation and cleanliness activities. Beyond employment creation, the project contributed to empowering youth and women, improving urban sanitation and environmental protection, strengthening economic self-reliance, enhancing entrepreneurship skills, and increasing community participation and social responsibility.
At its core, TIDO’s work goes beyond employment creation. The organization is committed to restoring hope, transforming lives, and building stronger, healthier, and more sustainable communities for the future.
